Dear Residents

Michelle Weston is not available to write her usual message but she has asked me to warn you especially that we have had lots of rural burglaries recently and to remind you to lock doors and windows especially when out in your back gardens either working or enjoying some of the glorious sunshine we have had this summer. She has also asked me to thank the Corston Neighbourhood Watch for providing the useful information that helped to identify and recover the offender’s vehicle which had some of the stolen property in it and has given good leads to tracing the offenders.   There is further burglary information below from Kate Turner.

Burglaries - Non-dwelling Buildings
Message from Kate Turner

Over the past 2-3 months, there has been an increase in the number of burglaries targeting non-dwelling buildings. Non-dwelling buildings are considered to be any buildings detached from homes, including, sheds, garages, farm buildings and business premises.

In many of the cases, a common theme is that the buildings have been insecure. This means that buildings have either been:
                    ~left open or unlocked
                    ~have inadequate security
~by their very nature are unable to be secured (i.e. barns or open structures).

Whilst the time of year could contribute to this type of offence, we cannot be sure, and would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of securing your property.

Please be reminded that your outbuildings require securing to the same level as your homes.
~ Obviously taking into consideration the value and worth of the property contained within,
doors and windows need to be of sound quality with relevant locks.
~Consideration should be given to installing alarms in all buildings storing valuable or
                      sentimental items.
~Always remember to secure the building, using any devices fitted when not in use, even if
leaving the property for a short while.

The value of the property in your out-buildings is probably more than you think - inexpensive alarms and security devices can be purchases for most types of buildings including sheds, where an initial outlay may prevent substantial losses. Check that your insurance covers the property in your out-buildings.

For buildings or structures that are difficult to secure, please seriously consider what you keep inside. Anchoring machinery or equipment together with strengthening the boundary of your property (fences, hedging, gates etc) will prevent easy removal of items.

Please take this opportunity to assess your security measures and seek advice if you require upgrades or improvements.
