The Great Vintage Flying Weekend 2005This year, Hullavington Airfield will be playing host to The Great Vintage Flying Weekend. It is set to run from 20th - 22nd May and should prove to be a great, fun and interesting weekend for ALL the family. At the time of writing (May 8th) over 600 aircraft are booked to fly in to the event, so it should be a really spectacular few days. The Great Vintage Flying Weekend has been running
successfully for Eight years at various locations (It was at Kemble two years
ago). As the name suggests, the weekend will play host to visiting vintage
aircraft from far and wide. Once all aircraft have parked, the general public
will be able to wander amongst them for a closer look. The event is NOT a flying display, it is a static
event, although the organisers are expecting a flypast from the Battle of
Britain Memorial Flight. There will also be pleasure flights available in vintage aircraft, specifically a DOVE and a TIGER MOTH. Entrance will be by ticket only. Weekend multiple entry car passes will be available for about £20 (in advance) or £25 on the day, to include the car AND any occupants (which could be Mum & Dad one day and Aunt Flo and Uncle Bob the next), or if arriving by foot the cost will be £5 each on the gate. Entry for car and driver will be £15 on the day, dates, times and PRICES The organisers are very mindful of noise, and so they have planned it so that all inbound & outbound aircraft will avoid overflying the village. Security will be, as you might expect, on patrol 24hrs during the event. I met with the organisers on Thursday April 28th. They really are bending over backwards to ensure that the event runs smoothly, with as little disturbance to the village as possible. Traffic is likely to be quite heavy over the weekend, so there will be temporary traffic lights and a Police presence at the Junction where the road to the village (by the hangars) meets the A429. The organisers are very aware of the need to be 'a good neighbour' at events such as this. After all, they hope to be invited back! by Graham Stokes. May 8th 2005 |
