Hullavington School Fete
Don’t miss Hullavington School Fete on Saturday from 2-4pm, with Wings and Talons, Tae Kwon Do, the School Line Dancers, Malmesbury Music Academy and many other attractions.

The Star Inn
After two brief periods of closure The Star Inn reopens on Saturday 4 July. Pauline and Antony Hudd are returning to keep the pints flowing in the village. Initially they will be open from 7 to 11pm. “We won’t be serving food yet” commented Mr Hudd, “as we are waiting for a new kitchen to be installed.” Watch this space for breaking news.

Hullavington Ramblers
The Ramblers are holding a mid-week walk tonight, setting off at 6:45pm. It will be a gentle perambulation of 3 to 4 miles from the Ship at Luckington, taking in the summer flower meadows towards Sherston. Tomorrow (Friday) is the drop-in social evening from 8:30pm.

Poetry Group.
This month’s poet, U A Fanthorpe, was chosen by Joan Lindsay who had the privilege of meeting the poet and hearing her read her work. The group were enthused by Fanthorpe’s wisdom and the way her writing sparked their own recollections and emotions. Three people read their own poems, two on the theme of smiling, and the third, in the style of Fanthorpe, was “The unbidden taste of tomatoes”. Despite the absence of the master baker, home-made cake was still on the menu. The next poetry group, on 5 August, will discuss the work of Simon Armitage, and the creative theme will be ‘August’.

Gliding Experience
An intrepid party from Hullavington Ramblers met at Cotswold Gliding Club for flights in a two-seater glider. The evening was warm, and, although it rained in Hullavington, Aston Down remained dry, though distant airborne views of our village were obscured by the haze. The jaunt, which was much appreciated by the novice fliers, concluded with a barbecue.  Three gliding club members who hail from Hullavington helped to make the evening run smoothly.
