Village Website Update

The village website has now been updated following a few medical and technical difficulties. You can trawl back through items in this column now that Maggie Dyson has overcome the challenges of putting them on the world wide web, and we hope that you will be able to use the village diary to plan your leisure time. If you have any forthcoming events in the village it is worthwhile contacting both this column and diary entries can be sent by email to diary@hullavington.info. Meanwhile, take a look at the Village Website at www.hullavington.info . If you haven't yet seen the village time-line in the history section of the website, save it up for a rainy day, and look forward to an interesting read.

Women’s Institute

The  Women’s Institute commented on the tidiness achieved for the Best Kept Village and expressed the hope that others will now be able to maintain the Big Tidy Up. The theme of this month’s meeting was Bees. Janet Mitchell recounted her experiences as an apiarist’s assistant, and surprised the audience by explaining that, in its life, a bee makes only one twelfth of a teaspoon of honey. The resolution to ask the Government to fund more research into bee survival was agreed unanimously. Isobel Acott demonstrated cooking savoury tartlets, which were appreciated by her audience, as was the tea prepared by the committee. The competition winners were Grace Jones and Dorothy Windeatt. The next meeting, on June 17, will be a history of Punch and Judy, from Mrs Alix Booth.

School Field

We are lucky to have access to the play area via the school field. Residents of the village are reminded that the use of motorcycles, bicycles, or any other vehicle is not permitted on the school field, nor is the exercising of dogs. The play area is only for use by three to eight year olds, and dogs, ball games, bicycles, roller blades and skateboards are not permitted in the fenced area.
