The cakes sold out within an
hour and raised £101 to help us get ready for the Harfest music and
arts festival in September.
Annual Parish Meeting
The small room at the
Village Hall held 21 people for the Annual Parish Meeting last week,
with representation from local organisations. PCSO Norman Webster
represented the Neighbourhood Police Team to explain the routine
police support available to the village. He left leaflets in the
hall, and will be in the village today with the library van.
District Councillor Jane
Scott clarified the position with regard to the Gypsy and Traveller
encampment at the boundary between the village, Corston and Stanton.
The Chairman of the Parish Council then reported on the year’s
activities in the village, followed by a report from the Hall
Committee, who have been so successful in attracting core users that
they have been able to repay part of their loan early.
Hullavington School was
represented by head teacher John Barlow who reported that the OFSTED
report rated it good with outstanding features. Lis Cheshire pointed
out that she is now liaising with the new doctor’s surgery in
Malmesbury, and Anna Durrant’s report on transport was read out.
Isobel Acott reported on the work of the WI towards the village
environment, and welcomed any volunteers on or before the Big Tidy
Up on May 12.
As the meeting came to a
close, Councillor John Thompson showed a tub of the revolutionary
new material which the Parish Steward will be using to fill
pot-holes in the roads.

Running for the Toilets
Chris Wilde, from Eton
Close, continues with his attempts to improve conditions at the Embu
Primary School in Kenya. He will be taking part in a 10 kilometre
charity run in Bristol and needs sponsorship towards the £5000 he
hopes to raise for a toilet block with running water to improve the
health of the school pupils. Sign Chris’s sponsor form in the
