Best Kept
Village
Hullavington WI are
supporting the Parish Council with an entry for this year’s Best
Kept Village competition. The village has won the competition in
1999, but even if we don’t achieve a prize, there is something to be
gained by everyone. If we all do just a little bit more to keep the
village neat and tidy, we will all enjoy a pleasanter environment.
If you are able to help with more than just your own little patch,
please contact any WI member. Please do your bit to make
Hullavington an even better kept village.
Poetry Group
The youngest member at this
months meeting was just 11 weeks old, but seemed to appreciate the
poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Several members contributed
poems with the theme of “The Zoo”. Members were reminded about the
closing date April 30 for the annual Rita Croft limerick
competition, and also about the Athelstan Museum’s poetry evening on
April 17 at the Rose and Crown , Lea. Eileen Fry (01666) 838793 has
all the details. The next poet, on May 6, will be D H Lawrence, with
the writing theme of “Reflections”.
Hullavington Really Has
Got Talent
The Talent Contest in
aid of Comic Relief, organised by eleven-year-old Rhys Tucker from
Hullavington, proved to be a real winner last Saturday. Rhys
introduced each contestant himself, with confidence and aplomb,
putting together a hilarious family evening. It was a great night
for the youngsters and a fantastic showcase for hidden talents.
Among the highlights were Ellis Tucker’s Sooty puppet show, which
culminated with a cannon exploding with streamers, and Luke Dicker’s
live rabbit to illustrate his jokes.
The adult winner was
Michael Alexander, a virtuoso guitarist, whilst the Little Big Band,
four youthful brass players, topped the junior contest, with
acoustic guitarist Peter Hanks in second place.
Alison Reed and Eric
Gough had their work cut out with the judging. Overall, the evening
raised almost £500 for the good cause.
Talent show winners
Members of the Little
Big Band were the winners of Rhys Tucker's recent talent show in
Hullavington . The band line-up was Keiran Tillotson and Eliott
Firth, saxophone and Laurence Chamberlain and Owen Jones, trumpet.
All the musicians, who hail from Hullavington, are members of the
Malmesbury Music Academy and attend their Saturday morning sessions
at Malmesbury Primary School.
