Half Marathon
Hullavington fielded four entries for the Stroud Half Marathon last
month. Jean Slater, raising money for Cancer Research, was the
fastest of the group, followed by Richard Warren, whose chosen
charity was Multiple Sclerosis. Alison Ayliffe and Maggie Dyson, who
targeted to raise four hundred pounds for the Williams Syndrome
Foundation, completed the course at a more leisurely pace.

John Aubrey Group WI
Kington Langley WI has joined with Hullavington, Kington St Michael
and Hardenhuish WI s as the John Aubrey Group of the Women’s
Institute, which met in Hullavington Village Hall last Wednesday
evening. They were entertained with a witty and knowledgeable talk
by Mr Atkinson about Fashion and the House of Dior. The guest
explained his progress from a cotton factory in Lancashire, where
his grandfather invented stiffened cotton for shirt collars, through
his training as a tailor and his subsequent responsibility as the
only Englishman working for Dior and his involvement at the
inception of Pret a Porter clothes. The evening concluded with a
buffet supper.
Hash House Harriers
A running group from Swindon, the Hash House Harriers, visited
Hullavington on Sunday, to make a circular run from the Star Inn,
returning with very muddy trainers. On 7 December they will be
holding a Swindon Santa Dash in aid of the Prospect Hospice, and
local residents are invited to join in by registering on
www.nwh3.co.uk.
