Coffee Morning Alert.
Serendipity Coffee
Mornings have been successful in raising over £900 towards work
on Hullavington Church Clock. The Coffee Mornings continue with
fund-raising for the McMillan Cancer Fund. Watch out! This
Friday’s Coffee Morning will be held at The Old School not the
usual venue.
Hullavington WI
Mr Strafford, a beefeater,
resplendent in his regalia, spoke to Hullavington WI about the
Ladies of the Tower. His tales of skulduggery, poisoning and the
origins of place-names were enthusiastically received by a
packed hall of women and a few male guests. Competition winners
were Sarah Harmer and Rosemary Mace. The next meeting, on
October 15, will be Holistic Therapies with Heather Daly.
Classical Music Concert
The classical concert in
Hullavington Church was a very popular innovation for Harfest,
with exquisite singing and diverse instrumental playing
revealing hidden talents in the village. An unexpected treat was
the recorder playing of Tyrone Harry, who moved here just three
weeks ago.
More Verse and Worse
Bob Fenner wrote and
directed a hilarious mediaeval farce in rhyming couplets,
starring Richard Warren, Anna Durrant, Michael Graves and Eileen
Fry to start the poetry evening with gusto. Members of the
poetry group followed with renditions of their own or
more familiar poetry. Rita Croft’s poetry book was on sale in
her memory, and further copies are available from Eileen Fry,
with all proceeds going to charity.
Art, Lace and Flowers
Art, lace and flowers were
beautifully displayed in Hullavington Church last Friday and
Saturday. The children who won the Guess the Nursery Rhyme
competition were Danielle Kirtley and Meghan Castle.
Harfest
Harfest
2008 has proved a resounding success, with the the Church
celebrating music and the arts in the community. The Harvest
Supper with its Barn Dance, and the Bandfest were a complete
sell-out in the Village Hall. Extra chairs were brought in for
the congregation of over 90 for Sunday’s Harvest Service.
Harfest finished at The Star Inn with Star Turns in the garden,
ranging from solo songs and choirs to instrumental virtuosity,
and culminating with African drumming.
