WI Summer Barbecue

The WI summer barbecue took place last Wednesday at the home of the president Isobel Acott. The buffet and barbecue were provided by the committee and the weather remained fine for the event. The quiz was won by Miriam Walker, the skittles by Evelyn Lewis and, for the main competition, Pat Harper created an exquisite miniature garden. The next WI meeting, a talk on British Cheeses by Mrs B Partridge, will be on August 20.

Friday Fitness Classes

Friday fitness classes have started at Hullavington Village Hall. The mixed ability body tone and circuits from 10 to 11am has already proved a hit and is accessible to all, male or female. Tai Chi Fit follows from 11.30 to 12.30 and is a discipline to improve balance and strength. Tuesday evening classes continue with Low Impact fitness from 6.30 to 7.30 pm and Mixed Ability Pilates from 7.45 to 8.45. Phone Andy Mcglashan on 07726 518933 if you are interested in joining in.

Village garden

A work-party of eight WI members did a swift make-over on the garden they created behind the bus shelter, at the junction of Watts Lane and The Street. It is amazing how much pruning and tidying can be achieved by a group of determined women. Thanks go to Liz Parry-Williams for providing refreshment.

The Star Inn

Regulars of the Star Inn, Hullavington crammed the bar on Sunday Evening to thank publicans Pauline and Antony Hudd for all their hard work to make the pub such a welcoming part of the village community. New tenants are taking over this week, so watch this space for more news.

The Big Sing

Members of Hullavington’s Village Voices joined a group of 150 singing enthusiasts at the foot of Solsbury Hill where they learned and performed new and familiar songs and enjoyed picnics in the sunshine on Sunday. The next venue for al fresco singing, organized by Chris Samuel and Wendy Sergeant, will be Synchronized Singing, a collection of watery songs at Portishead Open Air Swimming Pool on Saturday August 9 from 7 to 9pm. For more details, phone Wendy on 01275 814220.
