Fitness Classes
Two new fitness classes have started in
Hullavington Village Hall, both on Tuesday evenings. There is a low
impact class to exercise the whole body which is great for muscle tone.
It is very similar to the type of class that used to be run by Lyn
Keohane and is from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The second class is mat based
Pilates for mixed abilities; this class is to strengthen core postural
muscles, increase flexibility and correct posture whilst reducing stress
levels. The class is from 7:45 to 8:45 pm. Both classes are run by Andy
McGlaschan who is a qualified wellbeing coach. Andy is keen to provide
the type of fitness training that the village wants and will be asking
for your views. If there is demand for circuit training or high level
aerobics he will provide that too. So why not give it a go? You can
turn up at the hall on Tuesday evenings or contact Andy on 07726 518933.
Coffee at Serendipity
The Friday coffee mornings at Serendipity have now
concluded their collection for the Doorway charity, having raised an
impressive £500 towards a drop-in centre in Chippenham for the homeless
and those who have difficulty sustaining a tenancy. The next charity
will be for the Embu
Primary School in
Kenya, a project to improve the education
opportunities, initiated by Hullavington jazz singer Dani Wilde. All are
welcome to the coffee mornings from 10 ‘til noon.
WI Group Meeting
Seventeen members of
Hullavington
WI migrated to Kington St Michael
recently for an illustrated talk about British owls by the
conservationist and photographer Ian McGuire. In addition to showing
photographs of all the British owls, and identifying their calls, Mr
McGuire explained why barn owls are a schedule 1 species in need of
special protection. The reason is their soft feathers, which prevent
them flying in the rain. If the barn owl is unable to feed for three
days it will starve to death. The speaker made a particular plea for
people to retain areas of long grass where possible, round the borders
of fields or in spare corners, as these provide a habitat for the small
rodents which are the prey of these birds. He also pointed out that you
should never try to rescue a young owl if it is found on the ground as
its mother will be nearby watching over it. The group were then
privileged to see a live barn owl. A most enjoyable evening concluded
with a buffet supper.
