Hullavington Ramblers
Hullavington Ramblers, led by
Keith Collins, walked round Cherhill with its famous white horse and
monument last Sunday. Although rain was forecast, it held off during the
walk, and the overcast sky cleared for long enough for the ramblers to
appreciate the view. The walk to the monument is obviously popular, as
there were lots of people at the summit, and the walk, a now route for
the group, was rated as “Good”.
Annual Parish Meeting
Various village groups reported on
events in the village at the annual parish meeting last Wednesday. The
chairman, William Harmer, thanked the Parish Councillors for their work
and reminded those present that there is still a vacancy for one member
on the council.
The chairman was pleased to
welcome the new clerk, Mrs Pam Dobson from
Marlborough, who
brings considerable experience of local government work to support the
Parish Council. Mrs Dobson officially takes up her post from May 1. Her
contact details can be found on the village website,

Don’t miss Sarah
Don’t forget that the Avebury
Vocal Ensemble, who delighted Hullavington at last year’s Harfest, will
be singing at Malmesbury Abbey on 3 May at 7:30. Tickets are available
from the Abbey Bookshop, or from choir member Sarah Slarke.
Remarkaboule
The action is hotting up at
Hullavington’s boules league with notable successes by the veteran team
whose average age is over eighty, and the youngest team leader putting
in a very creditable performance at the Star Inn boules court. Matches
are played on Sunday to Wednesday evenings and spectators are welcome in
the beer garden at the Star Inn.
“Rita’s
Quiz”
The Harfest Quiz in the Village
Hall on Saturday was a lively occasion, with around 50 participants. The
evening was the third annual quiz, the last two being organised by the
late Rita Croft, who prepared and delivered the questions. On this
occasion, the questions were set by Bob Fenner, for which the Harfest
team were most grateful, and the question masters were Michael Graves
and John Samuel. Prizes were kindly donated by Robin Gale, Mrs Croft’s
brother. The winning quiz team was The Leftovers, and was a scratch team
of those who came along as individuals. The evening was a great success,
raising over £300 towards the Harfest Arts Festival this autumn, and was
thoroughly enjoyed as a community event.
Dirty Work for
Africa
Dirty Work will be playing at St
Mary’s Hall Malmesbury to support Hullavington jazz singer Dani Wilde’s
fundraising for the Embu
Primary School in
Kenya. The gig is from 9pm to Midnight
on May 10. Singer Paul Deacon said “This is our first charity gig and we
decided to support Dani’s charity raising funds for music education in
Africa. We are impressed that she has made such
a difference in the school, and we liked the idea of a local
connection.” Tickets for the evening, which will range from selected
contemporary rock to favourites from The Rolling Stones, are available
from Michael Thomas the butcher, or from Paul Deacon on (01666 ) 824193
Kidzsing coffee morning
The coffee morning held at
Dovecote Barn raised £384 for the Kidzsing African Group. Organiser
Elaine Johnson thanked the village for their support and was delighted
with the result. “It takes £100 per year to put one of these children
through school, so I was very pleased that we will help someone to
complete his education” she commented.
