Steam Fair Trip
Hullavington Ramblers organised a
village trip to the Dorset Steam fair in 2003, and are planning to take
another coach this year on 30 August. If you would
like to come along you don’t need to be a rambler, but should contact
Bob Fenner. Further details are on the Village Website at
www.hullavington.info
Poetry Group
The poetry group enjoyed the poems
of Thomas Hardy. Despite Hardy’s work being described as a lament on the
blackness of the human condition, the group judged their readings well,
with an interesting mix of sad and cheerful work. Poems on the theme of
March made up in quality for what they lacked in quantity. Eileen Fry
reminded the group about the Rita Croft Limerick Competition, so get
writing and submit limericks to Eileen by 6 May. Work on a book of
Rita’s poems is also under way. The poet selected for April 2 is Gerard
Manley Hopkins, and aspiring poets are invited to write about Clouds.
Exercise Class to Quit
Hullavington Village Hall
Sadly, the Rosemary Conley diet and exercise class have decided to move
their Hullavington Class to Chippenham after18 March. It's a pity as a
good number of Hullavington villagers participated fully. Exercise
classes have proved very popular at the village hall, so the Hall
Committee are looking for an instructor who will be willing to take a
Tuesday exercise class. Please contact Hall Bookings at (01666) 837096
if you know anyone who would like to keep our group fit and
active.
Hullavington Ramblers.
The next walk of Hullavington
Ramblers is on Sunday 16th March. It is a morning walk of about 5 miles
in the Castle Combe area. The route is new to us and explores a
different area of the combe. Meet at the National Trust car park at the
top of the combe for a 10:30am start. For more information contact Paul
on 01666837096 or email
paul@hullavington.info.
The long-distance group walked from Avebury along the Wansdyke to
Marlborough, returning over Fyfield Down to Avebury.
It was about 18 miles with superb views. Many new born lambs were
gambolling about, and a farm crew were busy trying to keep pace with the
births. If anyone is interested in joining the more demanding walks
please get in touch with Paul.
The Parish Life
A free news sheet called The Net,
which has delivered Church news to villagers in Hullavington, has come
to an end. It has now been superseded by The Parish Life, the glossy
cover of which shows a stunning photo of the road between Hullavington
and Sherston. The new magazine is available for 50p per copy or an
annual subscription of £5.
