Hullavington

Jolly Riders

The Jole Riders Charity benefited from more than £50 raised at a fashion evening in Yatton Keynell. The charity, which now has a base in Hullavington, collects unwanted bicycles from recycling centres, individuals and organisations. The bikes are serviced, then shipped to the Gambia where they are distributed to schools to help pupils get to school more easily, as some live up to 10 miles away. Bikes are passed on to other pupils when the youngsters leave school. Each child is taught basic maintenance and the charity is setting up workshops at each location in the Gambia to enable more complex repairs. It costs £10 per bike for shipping and they are despatched 330 at a time in 40 foot sea containers. Further information can be found at www.jole1000.org.

Tabletop Sale

Tables for the Tabletop Sale are now fully booked, so don’t forget to put Saturday April 14 in the Village Hall into your diary from 2-5pm. Admission is free. Refreshments are once again provided by the Art Group, this time to raise funds for the Village Ballroom Dancing and Film Clubs. Don’t miss the stall for the Happy Caterpillars.

Hoodie

Did a freshly-washed white hooded cardigan fly off the roof of your car in The Street, near the entrance to Greens Close on Saturday March 24? If so, contact Janet Jones on (01666) 837184.

Ballroom dancing

The informal group practising ballroom and Latin American dancing meet at the Village Hall every Thursday, (except 12 April) from 7-8:30. Contact Liz Parry-Williams (01666) 837713.

Coffee Mornings raise £800

Since the New Year, St Mary Magdalene Coffee Drinkers have been raising money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance. A raffle last week, organised by Brenda Saunders, raised another £64.00 and brought the total raised to £800.  Well done everyone.

From Friday (till the end of June) the chosen charity is Malmesbury Creche (South Africa). Myles Haffenden, one of ten young people from Malmesbury School who visited South Africa last year, gave an illustrated talk to the Goldenthreads Fellowship last week and greatly impressed the members with his appeal for the creche in Malmesbury, South Africa. It is definitely a worthy appeal for the Coffee Morning to support. Do come along to Serendipity on Fridays from 10-12 and enjoy coffee or tea and home-made cake for only a pound, do your bit for the charity, and chat with an astonishing number of Hullavington residents.

Easter Egg Trail

Join the Easter Egg trail, on Easter Sunday. It starts at 12:15 outside the Church, and leads to the Star Inn. All are welcome.
