Christmas Shopping Evening

The Annual Christmas Shopping Evening at The Old School raised over £350 for Hullavington’s Home School Association.

Ladies’ Night at the Star Inn.

Poetry Group

Hullavington’s Poetry group members learned last Wednesday that the works of Hilaire Belloc extend beyond his Cautionary Tales. Again, they demonstrated a range of styles for their own poems entitled 'If'. Bob Fenner introduced the group to the intricacies of the sonnet, and threw down the gauntlet to see if anyone could master the form for their new theme of ‘Winter’ (although the sonnet form is not compulsory.). The next Poetry Group Meeting will be in the Village Hall on Wednesday 6 December, when the poet will be Michael Rosen, and Eileen Fry will talk about writing a haiku.

John Aubrey Group WI
The John Aubrey Group of the Women’s Institute met in Hullavington Village Hall earlier this month, when they were entertained and enlightened by a talk from Mrs Clement about Toys and Games from Yesteryear. There were many nostalgic sighs when Mrs Clement recounted local variations of traditional rhymes, a spot of homespun advice, (babies, they were told, calm down if you tickle the soles of their feet when they are fretful,) and a reminder of the old traditions of Oak Apple Day. The enjoyable evening was brought to a close with a home made buffet.

Hullavington WI Trip to Stowe
Members of Hullavington Women’s Institute would like to thank Grace Jones, who organized a successful coach trip to Stow on the Wold for the group last Thursday. The next meeting of the WI will be on November 21 at 2pm when Mike Gann will talk about ‘Cruising down the Amazon’.
