Women’s Institute.
Men and women were invited to a talk by Detective Inspector Davey about
Card Fraud, organized by Hullavington Women’s Institute last Wednesday.
The WI President, Isobel Acott said: “This is such an important topic
that anyone in the village who is not a WI member is most welcome.” The
group of men and women felt it was a worthwhile subject to consider, as
card thieves target certain groups so we all need to be vigilant. The
talk was most thought –provoking and stimulated a good many questions.
Kay Goodenough and Joan Charlton provided cakes for the teas, and the
competition for pretty playing cards was won by … and Rosemary Mace. A
group meeting will be held at Hullavington Village Hall on 31 October,
with a talk by Mrs Clement about Toys and Games of Yesteryear. The next
regular meeting will be on Wednesday 21 November when Mike Gann will
talk about Cruising Down the Amazon.
Here and There
Elizabeth Parry-Williams, Hullavington’s Artist in Residence,
collaborated with her husband Peter and two sons, Timothy and Hanno, to
present an exhibition of works entitled Here and There, in Tetbury last
weekend. Timothy displayed textiles and silks, whilst Peter and Hanno
work together to produce tables and jewellery boxes. Elizabeth exhibited
60 pieces of work including paintings and drawings of India, Sri Lanka ,
Japan and Hullavington. She is currently exhibiting pictures in the
Gallery on the Bridge at Castle Combe and in the Theatre Royal Bath
Christmas Card Exhibition. Mrs Parry-Williams said: “ I was delighted by
the support from the village. More than seventy people came along to the
preview at different times, and we were very busy on the Sunday.”
Fearless Mr Fox
A young fox, loitering in gardens near the Star Inn, is unusually
fearless. Frank Birlison, of The Street, said: “I saw the fox munching
something under my bramley tree. I caught it in the beam of my torch and
it was completely unworried. It started to walk towards me.” A similar
fox was disturbed in broad daylight chasing hens in a nearby garden,
where it has reduced a flock of 17 hens down to four.
Garden Refuse Collection
Don’t forget to put out your brown wheelie bins tonight for an early
Friday collection.
