Erection of the Christmas TreeLast Saturday (December 11th) was the big day for the village Christmas tree to be put up in the church grounds. Everyone was looking forward to erecting our largest tree yet. Yes your parish council had forked out for an 18 foot tree this year; expense being no object when it comes to Christmas. Imagine the disappointment of the erection team when they arrived to put up the tree and found it to be a dwarf conifer. Yes it was an 11 foot midget that would barely have poked its head above the cemetery wall. What had gone wrong? We could not allow this to happen. Imagine the disappointment there would have been in the village having been promised the Arnold Schwarzenegger model and having to put up with the Ronnie Corbet. Recalling the words of that great British war time leader: "Up with this we will not put" Paul & Roger were dispatched hot foot to find out why the wrong tree had been delivered. Imagine their astonishment when they were told that the tree delivered was the tree hand chosen by the lady from the parish council!! But, the gentleman at Foxley Road Nurseries was fantastic. He immediately offered to cut down the correct size of tree, and deliver it straight away. So, with only a small delay, the correct size tree was delivered, and then erected. Even the tree lights worked - well most of them anyway! Mulled wine, cake and mince pies were the teams reward for an afternoons hard work. Click here to see the pictures! Submitted by Graham Stokes |
