Hullavington Dog Show 2008

Hullavington Dog Show was sponsored by The Star Inn and Robin Chiang, who runs the dog training classes at Hullavington Village Hall. Robin also organised the event and persuaded qualified  judges and other helpers to give up their time to help run the show.  Cameron from the Star Inn kindly hosted the event and provided 3 special trophies for Hullavington entrants. See photos below

Despite the weather, we had a good turnout with over 30 dogs   taking part and between 50 to 60 people.
There winners of the  8 novelty classes and 2 obedience classes will be published as soon as I receive the results list from Robin. However, the 3 Star Trophies for Hullavington entrants were awarded as follows:

  • The Star Dog Handler went to Phil Neal

  • The Star Dog went to Sky, who was a rescue dog owned by Jackie Henson

  • The Junior Dog Handler  went to James Lamont

Phil Neal entered 5 of his Akitas, which are  Japanese fighting dogs. These dogs are very strong and can pull 4 times their body weight. Phil has 6 of them, which he uses for competitive sledge pulling, so he can't afford to train them not to pull as pulling is exactly what he wants them for.   Phil was, therefore, operating under a severe handicap during the show and in recognition of this and the high overall  standard Phil and his dogs achieved,  Robin decided he deserved the trophy for Star Dog Handler.

Sky, Jackie Henson's rescue dog,  will never win prizes  for any award with pretty in the title, but she's a great dog with a nice rescue story that Robin thought deserved recognition.

James  Lamont showed Saffron in some of the novelty sections and won first prize in one of them. I'm not quite sure how old James is but he can't yet be 5. He and Saffron took it all in their stride  and  Robin felt that he deserved the Star Junior Handler trophy.

Feedback from those participating was very positive and, all  being well, we hope to repeat the show next year with more classes and starting later to give people more time.

Many thanks go to our co sponsors; namely: The Star Inn and Robin Chiang who made the show such a success.

The net proceeds from the show go to Hullavington Village Hall
