'Sunset Hullavington' by Alfred Omega TownsendAdded by Alan Jones, January 2006 Back in December (2005), we received an email from Mr Brian Hogg. He had just purchased a painting by the Bristol artist Alfred Omega Townsend, who was Brian's great great grand uncle. The painting is called 'Sunset Hullavington'. When browsing the Hullavington Village Website, Brian came across the old postcard of Latimer Pond and pointed out that the views are very similar. Unfortunately, we don't have a date for the postcard, but Brian believes the painting was completed after 1865 but well before 1900. Brian has kindly allowed us to publish a copy of the painting on the website. The three images below show the painting, the postcard and a photograph of the Latimer Pond site as it looks now. If the painting is of Latimer Pond, then the Artist appears to have exercised some licence as even in the mid 1800's there would have been several buildings between the pond and the church that have mysteriously disappeared!
