Hullavington Village Hall Management

Committee

 Report November 2010

Victor Rawlins

The last newsletter recorded the passing of Victor Rawlins and the fact that he had been a great supporter of the Village Hall over many years. At the last meeting of the Village Hall Committee it was decided that in memory of Victor the small hall area within the Village Hall should be called the Victor Rawlins Room. A suitable plaque will be put in place within the room.

 Rural Arts Wiltshire – Hamlet

The performance of Hamlet by the Watermill on Tour/Two Gents Productions in the Village Hall on Saturday 30th October proved very successful with an audience of nearly 60, and in fact the performers expressed their appreciation of a very good audience. £90 was raised for hall funds.

Once again we thank Anna Durrant for organising the evening along with her husband Simon. They put in a lot of effort to make the evening a success. The next Rural Arts evening will be around next Easter time, although the very future of the project may be in doubt following cuts to the Arts Council funding. Thanks also to members of the Village Hall Committee who gave help on the day.

 Hall Bookings

A number of times the Hall Committee has high lighted the difficulties the booking administrator faces in balancing the need to keep a number of Saturdays free for use by individual village residents to celebrate weddings, anniversaries, parties etc against the increasing demand for the use of the hall by external users on that particular day of the week.  His essential dilemma is how many Saturdays each year to keep free to cater for those village residents who might want to book the hall during the year (for the type of purposes described above) but at the same time accepting bookings from new hall users that offer “services” for the general village population by organisers who are not resident within, or part of, the community of Hullavington. It was agreed that on occasions these events need to be cancelled in favour of ‘village events’ provided sufficient notice is given of the village event. Ideally three months minimum.

Therefore if you as an individual feel that you might like to book the hall in 2011 for a special event, particularly for a Saturday, would you please give it due consideration and try and book as soon as possible.

Access Through the Hall Car Park Boxing Day

To comply with our obligation to ensure that the path through the hall car park between Greens Close and Hill Hayes Lane is not claimed as a public footpath, the gates into the hall car park from Hill Hayes Lane will be locked for a 24-hour period over the Boxing Day/Monday period.

Lights still being left on in the Village Hall

We continue to get reports of lights being left on over night in the Hall, particularly the toilet lights. Could we again emphasise the need for users to check these areas in particular before leaving the hall.

The 200 Club – Membership Vacancies

The 200 Club continues to provide an extremely valuable source of income to the Village Hall. At the present time there are some places available so if you are not a member please be considering it. Cash prizes every month.

To function the 200 Club needs collectors and for a number of years Peter Rawsthorne has been a collector. Sadly, recently he felt the need to resign and we therefore thank him most sincerely for his hard work over those years. In his place we are delighted to welcome Margaret Saunders.

Contact John Greenwood on 01666 837227 for further information.

 Booking the Village Hall

We continue to welcome new groups and organisations to the hall and bookings are extremely healthy. Nevertheless there are always a few spare slots. Please refer to the sheet printed in this newsletter for details of hiring costs and booking details. Please contact Paul Hadley on 01666837096, email hullavington@googlemail.com or Bob Fenner on 01666837320, email bobfenner.99@tiscali.co.uk for advice on hall availability and cost, or simply access the Village Webb site where you will find booking details.

Note: to book the hall you do not need access to the internet.
