Hullavington Village Hall Management

Committee

 Report Jan/Feb 2009

Hall Management Committee Meetings will be closed meetings

Although the constitution of the Village Hall Management Committee does not indicate it, we have always been happy for members of the public to attend Village Hall Management Committee meetings. At the February Committee meeting, however, it was voted that in future Village Hall Management Committee meetings should be closed meetings.

Ineffectiveness of hall notice about removal of rubbish

Just prior to Christmas and following the booking of the hall for a function no less than ten bags of rubbish were left outside at the rear corner of the hall. These had to be removed by members of the Hall Management Committee as the hall no longer has a large Wheelie Bin.  It was thought that the terms of booking the hall made it clear that rubbish should be removed from the hall and site by the hirer. On inspection of the terms, however, it was found that it was stated that hirers were responsible for simply removing their rubbish from the hall. This will be corrected to state that hirers of the hall must remove their rubbish from the site.

Entrance Hall Floral Decorations

We feel sure that over the life of the new hall users have admired the floral displays within the entrance area of the hall. These have been arranged by Grace Jones with a great deal of care and skill. Recently a couple of displays were damaged. Could hall users please make every effort to ensure that these displays are not harmed as they add immensely to the first impressions of the hall.

Rural Arts Wiltshire – Rosemary Squires

On February 28th we enjoyed a very pleasant evening of Gigs, Gigles and Gossip with Rosemary Squires in the village hall.  It was an evening of song and reminiscences from Rosemary covering her more than 60 years in the world of show business. Over those years she sang with the Ted Heath Band, Johnny Dankworth and Humprey Littleton as well as appearances on many radio and television programmes. She had many tales to tell! With a sprightly performance on stage it was difficult to believe that she passed her 80th birthday last year. Accompanying her on the keyboard was Brian Dee who himself played for many years with the Ted Heath Band and opposite Dudley More.

Once again we thank Anna Durrant for organising the evening along with her husband Simon. They put in a lot of effort to make the evening a success and this was the sixth time that they have organised a Rural Arts Wiltshire show in the hall. Thanks also to members of the Village Hall Committee who gave help on the day.

The 200 Club

The 200 Club continues to provide an extremely valuable source of income to the Village Hall. There are still places available.  Contact John Greenwood on 01666 837227 for further information.

 Booking the Village Hall

We continue to welcome new groups and organisations to the hall and bookings are extremely healthy. Nevertheless there are always a few spare slots. Please refer to the sheet printed in this newsletter for details of hiring costs and booking details. Please contact Paul Hadley on 01666837096, email auff54@dsl.pipex.com or Bob Fenner on 01666837320, email bobfenner.99@tiscali.co.uk for advice on hall availability and cost, or simply access the Village Webb site where you will find booking details.

Note: to book the hall you do not need access to the internet.
