Hullavington New Village Hall Project Group and Village Hall Committee(Last updated 6th June 2006)The building of the new Village Hall is now at an advanced stage!New Hall Project GroupBuilding the New Vilage HallAs was mentioned in the last Newsletter the contract for building the new hall was signed towards the end of February and the foundation work commenced just before Easter. This work was completed by the beginning of May and on the 3rd May the pre-manufactured units of the new hall building were delivered and assembled within the day. The completion of the outside walls and the tiling of the roof quickly followed this. From now until the planned handover date of the hall on 14th July 2006 a variety of work activities will continue on the new hall and the car park – fitting it out internally, connecting up services, and levelling and surfacing the car park. Following the hand over of the hall on 14th July the new hall project group then has to undertake and complete a number of essential tasks and activities before the hall is ready for use. These include arranging for the delivery and installation of new furniture, storage cupboards, fire fighting equipment, and kitchen items etc, as well as ensuring that all necessary licences and the new insurance policy are in place. If all goes according to plan it is hoped that the new hall will be ready for use by mid-August 2006. Official Village Hall OpeningAs indicated above it is hoped that the new hall will be available for use from about mid August. However it is intended to have an official opening ceremony at the new hall on Friday 20th October at 7.00 for 7.30pm, performed by our local MP James Gray, when all in the village will be welcome to attend. Official invitations will go out to the many other people from outside of the village who have contributed in some way to the new hall. However, to celebrate the completion of the Hall it is planned to have five days of activities between the 11th and 15th August in the new Hall. Although in the early days of planning, there will be musical evening, displays and demonstrations. Open throughout the whole of the days indicated, in its simplest form there will be the opportunity for villagers to come to the hall, have a look round and enjoy a coffee, biscuit and chat. The Continuing work of the CommitteeThe placing of the order for the new hall has not meant that the New Hall Committee/Village Hall Committee has suddenly nothing to do and much work continues in the background. A first task was to decide upon the internal decoration colours and a small group convened on a number of occasions to consider colours including not only walls but colours for flooring, blinds, tiles, door handles, chairs and table coverings. Furniture was evaluated and the order has been placed for new tables and chairs. Work continues on preparing our application for the new Entertainments Licence, establishing the new rental charges, the terms for hiring the hall and the hall booking system (see below) and many other tasks. Even at this late stage applications are going in for small grants to cover further items of equipment for the new hall. Booking the HallA booking system that can be accessed via the Internet is being developed and more details of this will be given at a later date. There will, however, still be the option of booking by telephone as in the past. Hullavington Village Hall CommitteeVillage Hall Committee AGM 24th May 2006.The minutes of the
