The walk
I've chosen is probably one of my favourite in the whole of southern England -- on a good day !
 
We leave from Beckhampton roundabout, and walk up the gentle slope of the downs to the crest where hopefully we get a wonderful 360 degree view across the Pewsey Vale in front of us and the back across to Silbury Hill, Avebury and beyound.  There's then a drop down, over the K&A canal and onto the pictureseque village of All Cannings where we lunch at the King's Arms.  We return through the fields to Allington and then a metalled road back up the Downs and onto Beckhmpton.
 
Distance 
 -- circa 9 miles in total [ or you can meet us for lunch at around 1.00pm at the King's Arms and walk back with us, and we'll drop you back your car later]  As my note indicates there are 2 gentle up slpoes and 2 gentle down slopes.
 
Meet Time & Place
-- meet at 11.00am ; in the layby directly opposite the Wagon & Horses @ Beckhampton roundabout, on the A4 five miles east of Calne
