Hullavington Ramblers

Celebrating 10 Years of Rambling - Oct 1997 To Oct 2007

Commemorative Walk  Sunday  7th Oct

Bath to Bradford on Avon

along

The Kennet & Avon Canal

The Kennet & Avon canal  runs through a very scenic valley with superb views (see photos below). During the early years of The Ramblers,  we walked the whole length of the Kennet & Avon from Bath to the Thames at Reading, not, of course, in one go but as a project broken down into manageable sections. It took us   about a year in all and we alternated our walks programme so that we did a section of the canal walk every other month. Although it's a linear route we are fortunate in that,  for most sections  (ours included), the train runs  close by and we are able to make use of it by parking at Bradford on Avon station, catching the train  to Bath (takes 15 mins) and then walking back to our cars.

There is  little doubt that the Bath to Bradford on Avon section of the whole route contains the best scenery and is, therefore, one of the main reasons we chose this section of the walk  as the first of the  2 commemorative walks to celebrate our 10 years of rambling.  It also scores highly for other reasons: being a tow path it has  a  good walking surface,  is flat  and  we can't get lost.

The plan is to muster in the station car park at Bradford on Avon at 11:00am to catch the 11:10am train to Bath.

The route is just under 9 miles, but they are such flat miles you'll hardly notice them

There are plenty of places for us to take lunch along the route and I'll post this info nearer the day.

We are trying to contact all those who have ever walked with us over the past 10  years in the hope that they will be able to join us for what was probably one of our finest walks.

We hope to see you on Sunday 7th Oct
