Hullavington Ramblers

Ramblers Summer BBQ 16 Aug 2008

If you've been following our walk reports this year, you'll know we have not had the best of weather. But despite a crap forecast of rain, rain, rain, for the BBQ, it didn't happen. It was bloody perishing though as you can see from the photos. I counted 16 fleeces, one duvet jacket and an assortment of anoraks. Oh, and someone (Frank) had had his head carpeted in shag pile for the day (see photo)
As you might expect, there was a lot of chatter about the Olympics  and Bob & Cynthia  came up with the  new sport of  synchronised smoking. But as you'll see from the photo, Bob needs to improve his timing  if they  are to qualify for London 2012.   I've emailed Lord Coe  about having it included and am awaiting a reply.

There was further entertainment from Alan Roberts, who gave a frightening realistic impersonation of a Thames Dredger.

Any way we all had a great time; there was good turnout with live music from Bob The Blues Brother,  followed by a DJ session from John  who played  a mix of old favourites.  When I showed the photos to someone,  who will have to remain nameless, they said the one of John reminded them of Geppetto. Yep I know, like me,   you're thinking who in blazes is Geppetto.  Well, evidently he was/is  Pinocchio's dad  in the Walt Disney film

As darkness arrived, it got colder so we stoked up  Bob's fire pit with any old wood we could find until we had   a  warming blaze going.  But for us to  stay warm,   the fire was really eating the wood pile, so  foraging parties were sent out to find wood.  We apologise to residents in the Parklands  if they are short the odd fence panel, but needs must.

Many thanks go to Bev & Keith for hosting the event.
