Sunday 23rd November

The walk on 23rd November will be a circular walk starting and finishing
on the old Fosse Way a couple of miles from Norton. The route proceeds from
near Ladyswood towards Sherston, traverses along the edge of Pinkney Park,
passes through Easton Grey, and then re-crosses the Avon at the site of a
ruined mill before returning to the start along the Fosse Way. The route is
generally flat with some inclines. Distance - just under 5 miles; time about
2.5 hours.
Conditions: There isn't any easy or comfortable way of presenting this
but, when we did the walk earlier this week, the conditions underfoot were in
many places very wet and muddy. If it rains (as is predicted) between the
time you receive this note and the date of the walk then conditions are likely
to be even wetter and more muddy!
Where to park: Parking will be at the beginning of the old Fosse Way
that is located about a mile and a half from Norton. On approaching Norton
take the road right leading to the Vine Tree and, at the ford at the bottom,
take the left turn towards Easton Grey. Proceed along this road for a mile and
a half and, just where the road take a sharp bend to the right, turn left into
the old Fosse Way. In the first 50 yards of the Fosse Way (which itself is
muddy and full of holes) there are several piles of rubble and hardc ore that
are being used for local road repairs - so drive past these to firmer, drier
ground and then park as far as possible to one side of the track further on.
The Fosse Way here is a byway open to traffic and must not be obstructed.
Assemble: 10.00 a.m.
Lunch: Bob and Sue would like to invite those on the ramble to join us
at 5 Royal Field Close for a simple lunch of home-made soups, rolls and cheese
- to be washed down with beers, lagers and wines. We plan to get going by 1.00
p.m. and hope that you can join us. It would be helpful to know of numbers who
are coming so that we can plan appropriately.
If you have any queries or need further information the numbers to ring
are:
Before 23rd November : 01666 837320
On the day: 07974 633 072
We hope you can join us on this walk.
