Walk
around Sherston Sunday June 22nd
Meeting place : Sherston High Street
(normally there are several places along the main street to park) Time : 11:00 am Length : 4-5 miles Duration : 2 hours pre lunch/1 hour after
lunch at snails pace Lunch : The Olde Royal Ship, Luckington
(about 13:00) A hint of a cow and
a horse.. Very slight hills.
Very little mud except for the odd patch. But.. if there
is significant rainfall between then and now there could be some
interesting soft spots.
Warning :
When I walked this last week there we a lot of biting insects. So if you suffer
then remember your repellent. The route : This is a merge of two short walks we have done previously in the evening. The morning session took me about 2 hours at a very gentle pace. The afternoon is much shorter (1 hour) but can be extended a bit depending on general conditions of weather and people or time spent in pub
We set off from Sherston High Street at 11:00am. The first part of the walk is along a quiet lane before we join and follow a stream that actually leads us to the source of the mighty river Avon. We push on across some fields and country lanes to the village of Sopworth A slight climb and decent over Badmington down leads us to the village of Luckington and lunch at the Old Royal Ship.
The afternoon session is quite short so don’t be afraid to fill up at the pub. After leaving the pub we rejoin the Avon
tributary crossing the ford and heading up towards what used to be Sherston
Vineyard. At the bottom of the decent we make across country to once again follow the stream until it leads us safely back to Sherston,
