Be Aware- Carol Singers.
A sizeable group of young people have been gathering outside houses in the
village and asking for money to sing carols. Although their
intentions are innocent, their numbers are intimidating and they do
not appear to know any carols. Carol singing in the street was a
traditional part of Christmas time in the past, with
the proceeds normally going to charity; but we would get
a good rendition of Hark the Herald, rather than the literal silent night.
If you are parents with young children in the village please make sure they are
aware that their innocent fun can be intimidating and may scare people
particularly as this happens at night when people feel vulnerable.
And let's all keep an eye out for this. |
Private J. Idle and a visit to the Somme Battlefields
(added 17th November 2005)
Through the dedication of the late Marjory Dolman in looking after his grave in
the Hullavington Church yard most of the village is perhaps aware of the
presence there of the official World War I grave of Private J. Idle. This is a
very interesting, moving and topical article by Dave Hunt.

200 Club saved thanks to John Greenwood.
See above
The 200 club raises well over £1000
pounds a year towards the up keep of the village hall. This money is vital
to the finances of the future village hall, which could well be up and
running within the first half of next year, if all goes to plan. For those
that don’t know what the 200 club is: 200 people pay £1 per month each into
a pot.
Half of the money is allocated to the village hall and the other half goes
as prize money by way of a draw every month amongst the 200 members. Doug
Butler and Peter Morris have been the stalwarts organising and collecting
the money for many years, but Doug cannot continue and we need to find a
person or persons willing to lend a hand. Unless people are willing to fill
the gap, the 200 club will cease to operate and the village hall will lose a
vital part of its revenue. So if you can help, please do. We are truly
desperate. And you will be contributing to a village asset.
Please contact either Peter Morris 837225 or Dave Hunt on 837729

Part 2 of Report from Sarah Bolton
Following her working visit to the Bentota Hospital in May.
It brings it all alive and shows the positive
affect their work is having. It is also heartrending to know how desperate
the situation is out there and what a huge difference a small amount of
money can make when properly directed: literally LIFE or DEATH. .......(more)

Sarah Bolton's Appeal for
Help in Supporting The Bentota Hospital in Sri Lanka
Remember the Tsunami
earlier this year? The plight of those
affected by it captured our attention and our
hearts. The nation gave generously then. But
it ain't over. Things are still not back to normal.
You can help by supporting Sarah's very practical
efforts either by a direct donation and/or by
supporting fund raising events like the sale of
Murano Glass Jewellery being organised by
Sarah Harmer at Barnfield Farm this Saturday (18th
June), where donations from the sale will go to
Sarah Bolton's Bentota Hospital project.
