Today (21 September 2007), Operation TELIC medals were presented to soldiers from 94 Squadron by Major General David Shouesmith,during a parade at Buckley Barracks, Hullavington. 7th Sept 07   Rosemary Conley  Diet and exercise class   begins on Tuesday 11th Sept in Hullavington Village Hall.  7 until 8:30pm.  Membership is FREE until the end of September.  For full details of what it's all about click (here).   If you don't want to do the diet bit you can just turn up for the exercise part which will be from 7:30pm  we would welcome exercise only members and they are more than welcome to stay for the talk – we would ask that they get to the class about 7.30 Members who are exercise only don’t have to pay the £10 membership as this is for the Diet Pack

HULLAVINGTON FILM CLUB  restarts for the Autumn season.  Film night is now the 4th Wednesday in the month in the village hall.
 The next film is the Painted Veil on the 26th September. All are welcome, so why not join in  and enjoy watching a modern movie in a civilised manner  by strolling over to the hall, sitting around tables cafe style with a glass of wine or something,  in good company 

5th Sept New to Hullavington Village Hall, the WEA are running 2 courses in Hullavington on a  trial basis  to see if sufficient interest and demand exists to run courses on a regular basis. The 2 courses are
  • An  8 week  literary course  titled "From Bloomsbury to Booker" on Thursdays beginning 4th Oct
  • A  Day School on Saturday 27th Oct . on The Archaeology of North Wiltshire including; inter alia: Hullavington, Sherston, Chippenham, Malmesbury.  The  lecturer is Mark Collard who lives in Hullavington and has a senior position at Cotswold Archaeology

4th Sept 07 The Annual Village Trip to London  Saturday 24th November organised by Hullavington Ramblers.   If you would like a day in London without the usual hassle of driving of catching the train, then  join us for our coach trip to London. You get picked up and dropped off in Hullavington.   So far we have 42 people  on the list so there are still 10 places left. 2 Sept 07 The 31st Hullavington Village Show This years village show took place yesterday (Saturday 1st Sept) in the village hall. It  was the 31st such show and a great success it was too. The tables were laden with so many entries, the aisles between crammed with the public and the cafe area  full to bursting ......(more)

29 Aug 07   Rosemary Conley  Diet and exercise class   to begin on Tuesday 11th Sept in Hullavington Village Hall.  Roz Chandler has decided to start a class up in Hullavington on a Tuesday evening from 7 until 8:30pm.   I understand the first half hour will deal with the diet stuff and the last hour the exercise  part.   I'm told the exercise  is low impact  aerobic and will cater for  all grades of fitness.  If you are interested  in joining or  want more information  you can contact Roz Chandler  o:n.   rosemaryconley@hullavington.info   or tel   01249654845,

21 Aug 07 New village groups and classes in Hullavington village Hall
During the course of  the last year  we have lost Lydia Holmes' Yoga class through lack of interest and also Lyn Keohane's keep fit classes as she is moving to Cornwall.

To fill the gap, we have a couple of new classes

  • Yoga (Sivananda Yoga) run by Naomi  starting on Wednesday  morning 19th Sept 1o till 11:15am. At the moment it will run  for 2 weeks  to see  if there is enough  interest  for it to become a regular feature. 
     
  • A  Rosemary Conley Diet & Exercise  class run by Roz Chandler staring in early January. This will be an evening session on Tuesdays.  
  • There is also the possibility of another light exercise class starting up, but more about that when things become clearer

20 Aug 07 UPDATES.  What with holidays, jobs to do, summer activatesf etc  I've not  added anything to the website for a  few weeks.  But   Steve  has been adding "The Net materiel"  regularly. Well done Steve.  I have also  made some arrangements  for a couple of other people to help with updating the site so hopefully over the coming months  the load can be spread a little.   
23 June 07 A Village Cricket Match  is being planned  for Sunday 26th Aug :The Star Inn -V- The Challengers.. The match will  be held on Butlers Field and start at  12 noon. There's live music and a quiz night  as The Star Inn becomes a Smoke Free pub from Sunday  the 1st July.  In the build up to this historic day  there will be   live music on 29th Jun & a quiz on Saturday 30th June  and lots more . Many of us will be sad to see Sue leave as she did an excellent job for our village and we wish her well in her new job. Sue will be replaced  from July by  Bruce Matthews ....... 25 May 07 Yoga in Hullavington Village Hall.  There will be no further yoga classes with Lydia Holmes in the village hall due to there being insufficient numbers to make the class viable.  If any of the existing group or anyone  wishing  to take up yoga, Lydia has other classes  near by that are available. 25 May 07 Village walk  BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 28th MAY 2007. The walk on Bank Holiday Monday is lead by Alan Roberts. It's a local walk from Hullavington to Corston via a route not many, if any, of you will have done before. Wilts County Council have cleared a couple of barriers that now make the route very straightforward and easy. The weather forecast is not brilliant but it can change between now and Monday. Village Book Launch in Hullavington Village Hall .  Jan Greenman  has written and published an autobiographical  book  titled Life at The Edge Living with ADHD  and Aspergers  Syndrome - A True Story of Luke's Life with Labels.  Nigel Mansell  . features in the book. makes the comment that "This is a book that demonstrates how brave parents are and is a truly riveting read"  He hopes to be there   along with James Gray who wrote the forward.  ....more

Remember the village survey  conducted  4 years ago?  Well 82% were in favour of Hullavington entering the Best Kept Village competition and 75%  said they were willing to take part  in a village clean up day to spruce up the village in readiness for the Best Kept Village competition.  Although for the last 2 years  the PC decided not to enter Hullavington for the best kept village,  village clean up day still goes ahead.

12th May07 Hullavington Ramblers-Walk this Sunday  13th May POSTPONED due to an abysmal weather forecast. The walk planned for this Sunday  along the course of the Somerset coal canal has been postponed due to  the weather. The forecast for Sunday is abysmal  with heavy rain likely all day.  The route includes  a steep track  and sections through long grass which would not be pleasant in the wet.  Maggie will arrange  a new date and well try again

9th May 07 Don't Forget Yoga begins again this Thursday  19th May in the village hall from 10:00 till 11:30am.  The numbers for this class have dropped off a bit recently putting it in the danger zone. So if you have ever thought of taking up yoga now is the time because if you put it of till later  the class won't be there to join.  The group is men & women and all ages. All of us that have  joined in have felt great benefits from it  and I can highly recommend it. For more information contact Lydia on 01249 716235

Byway warning to drivers

Wiltshire County Council is warning motorists who use byways that they will be committing an offence.

8th May 07 Parish Council Annual General Meeting (AGM)  Note the meeting is on FRIDAY yes FRIDAY 11th May  at the Village hall, followed by the  May PC meeting.  The  AGM  is where the new  PC members are sworn in  and  elect a Chair and deputy Chair  Takes place in  the Village Hall at 7:30pm.  Members of the public and the press are very  welcome

A Short walk  along the course of  Northern Branch of The Somerset Coal Canal Sunday May 13th.  Organised by Maggie Dyson and our guide is Adrian from the heritage group that is  currently restoring the canal. It is a record of the marriages, burials and Christenings   for Hullavington dating back to around 1650 ish.  The data was provided by Ken Greenman and the wizardry  of getting it onto the website was done by Alan Jones.  To navigate to the Parish Registers: click on "Local History" on the blue navigation panel to the left of this screen then "Parish Registers" 
27th Apr 07 Hullavington Ramblers Walk on Sunday 29th Apr.
A short (4 miles)  circular walk for Spring from the outskirts of Malmesbury along the valley  of the Tetbury Avon towards Brokenborough and then back down the other wide  of the valley. A little over four miles in total, with lots of fresh spring
growth and happily singing skylarks to distract you as you go.....(MORE)
