Hullavington Ramblers Walk
Sunday 24th September 2006
A circular walk of about four miles starting and
finishing at the Suffolk Arms at Brinkworth
The route includes a variety of different, lanes, bridleways, byways, tracks and
meadows to the north of Brinkworth. The terrain is varied and includes flat
tracks and byways, inclines up and down meadows and a short climb to the top of
Ramps Hill (115 metres above sea level – Mars Bar index = 3.75). There are some
lovely views of the farmland and small hills of North Wiltshire and Somerford
Common to the north and the far views towards Lyneham in the south.
Conditions: When we did the walk recently we found it reasonably easy. There are
some difficult stiles to negotiate along the way that were presumably
constructed for people with an inside leg measurement of 59 inches! Even though
there had been no rain for a while some parts of the route were wet and muddy –
notably meadows with long grass and a stretch of bridleway through a copse. In
view of more recent rainfalls and the likelihood of there being even more before
Sunday expect some soggy and muddy patches. There was nothing unusual in the way
of animal life – no belligerent bovines or randy ruminants – although the tail
end of a fox was seen disappearing through a hedge.
Meet at the car park behind “The Suffolk Arms”, Brinkworth
at 10.30 a.m. Brinkworth in on the B4042 road from Malmesbury to Wootton
Bassett and The Suffolk Arms is the second pub in the village. It’s right at the
end of the village on the left. Park at the end of the large car park behind the
pub.
Lunch will be at the Suffolk Arms. Normally they only do roasts on Sundays but
have said that they would be able to provide simpler fare (such as baguettes)
for those who wanted it.
The weather forecast for Sunday is for sunny intervals with temperatures perhaps
reaching 24?C
Hope to see you on the walk. Please phone 07974 633 072 if you have difficulties
or are running late.
