Why have the Parish Council set up this site?

The Hullavington Village web site is provided on a trial basis by your Parish Council. It is paid for out of the Parish precept and therefore belongs to you. .So why have we set up this site? Well there are a number of reasons; namely

1. To Improve communication between the Parish Council and the village.
The results of Village Appraisal indicated that only about half of you believe the Parish Council communicates with you adequately. That is clearly not good enough and the website is part of our plans for improving communication.
2. To provide a community information hub for the village, that all with access to a computer can use
There is a lot going on in Hullavington, but news of it is fragmented. The activities of the various groups tend to be confined to the group itself. Often these groups are keen to have new members, but are not readily able to advertise themselves or their activities. Hopefully the existing groups can be encouraged to post news of their activities, meetings etc on the web site in the Groups section ; also to provide dates for the diary section of meetings, days out, functions etc
3. To promote the start up of new village interest groups where a need has been identified .
The Village Appraisal identified a latent demand for a number of interest groups ranging from local history to a cinema club; from natural history to keep fit………..; for which no club or organisation currently exists within the village. Many of those who responded to the Village Appraisal registered their interests and names with us and there is no need to respond again. However, in addition to those already registered, we intend circulating the lists again on the website and in the Hullavington News to give people another opportunity to sign up. So watch this space
4. To promote local business from baby sitter to shop; from Post Office to decorator……….
The Village Appraisal felt it was a good idea to have a Village Directory that listed all businesses and services available within Hullavington and to promote them. A Village Directory is therefore included in this website, which we hope will eventually list everybody in the village who has a service to offer.  If you would like to be included, please send us your name, contact details, and a brief description of what you can provide (no more than 30 words).  These entries are free of charge. It is also possible to advertise your business on the site for a modest fee; the first 2 months advertising being free of charge.
5. To promote the heritage of the village.
The Village Appraisal highlighted the high level of interest there in our local village history and heritage. A local history section has therefore been set up where people can feed in items of local historical interest. This part of the site has had many hits and we have had an encouraging response from villagers and ex-villagers with many providing useful inputs and articles for the site.

Possible Issues

You may be wondering how all this will affect the Hullavington News, well Pat Wilkinson has been consulted throughout and is very enthusiastic for the web. She like ourselves believe there is a need for both the website and The News. We plan having periodic meetings with Pat to see how we can use the 2 publications to the maximum benefit of the village. We also intend exploring a joint advertising scheme that would provide funds to pay for The News and the website.

What Next?

Well what do you want? Remember the website is on a trial period of 6 months and we are already almost 2 months into that trial . We have some ideas for the future, but are keen to hear yours. We are also desperate for feedback from you and need it for when we make the decision on whether to continue with the web or not. So please let us know if you think the site is worth keeping, or if you hate it and want it stopped, or if there is something you would like included. You can contact us via the Guest Book or the Contact us section.
