Hullavington Parish Council
 Elections  3rd May 2007

By clicking (here) you can find, in detail, answers to the many questions   you may have concerning  the Parish and district elections including how to stand for the parish council.   If you don't have too much time,  I've knocked out some    Janet  & John  jottings on the importance of standing for the parish  council and for voting in the elections.

  • There are 9 seats on Hullavington Parish Council and, unless more than 9 people stand for election,  those that do stand will be elected unopposed  and you will have no say in it at all.

  • If less than 9 people stand and they are elected unopposed, they are at liberty to fill the vacant seats   by cooption, so again  you  will  not get to vote on this.  Is this the sort of representation you want?

  • Currently  there are only 8 councillors  and I understand  3  of the  existing 8   will not be standing this time. So, assuming this to be the case,  unless others  stand for election,  the council will number 5  and would be free  to co-opt another 4 to make up the numbers.    Are you content with this?

  • If you want democratic choice  in Hullavington Parish council, we need 10 or more people to stand for the parish council.

  • If  you don't care then so be it.   But if you do care about  who makes the decisions on Hullavington Council over;  inter alia:   removing poplar   trees from  Latimer Pond,  providing  the Parish View on planning matters,  letting  contracts, running the cemetery etc  then stand for council  and vote  in the election on May 3rd

  • Don't make excuses about not having the time to be a parish councillor  and not being able to attend all the meetings. The system recognises  all this  and knows you may not be able to  attend all the meetings. Remember  it is better to have  rich and diverse quality rather  than   silent bums on seats,  or noisy ones for that matter..

  • If you want to stand for  Hullavington Parish Council then go to  " How  do I become a parish Councillor ".  But basically all  you need  do is get the nomination forms from the District Council offices in Chippenham or from the Parish Clerk (see below for contact details),   be over 18 y o on polling day,  be on the voters  register,   get  someone to  nominate you and another to second it, fill in the forms and make sure they get to NWDC Chippenham office by noon on 4 APRIL.   Go on.   DO IT.    YOU CAN MAKE A  DIFFERENCE

  • If you need help, need more information,   then contact the Parish Clerk Sue Webb,  she is  waiting your call.    : 01666 824 620 or at email email: dennis.webb01@virgin.net
