The VoXboX mission
To get the people of England singing
together. For enjoyment, personal satisfaction and the sheer fun of it.
VoXbox is about getting people to sing. Together. Without backing.
Whether or not you’ve sung before, whether you think you can sing or
not. And you don’t need to know anything about music. It is fast,
accessible and will introduce you to a wide range of music from
different traditions. Modern and ancient, pop, folk jazz and classical;
some in different languages; some with no words at all.
We’ll raise awareness, stretch personal boundaries, build confidence and
leave you feeling on a massive high.
It’s not about soloists or musical notation it’s about the joy of
singing as part of a group – something that rarely happens in English
culture outside of organised choirs.
If you can talk, you can sing. And when you sing, the world is a better
place.
The VoxBox Method
All VoxBox teachers hold the same view
that anybody can sing and it should be fun above all else.
We teach using simple, non-technical terminology and use simple visual
cues to help you learn tunes.
Many of the songs have simple words that can be easily remembered, for
some we’ll have words on a flipchart, very occasionally you’ll have word
sheets.
There are rarely solo parts, we’re about collective enjoyment and
understand that singing can be a very exposing thing to do in front of
others.
We want you to get the most out of our sessions by being comfortable and
relaxed with the people around you and not feeling as if you have to
‘perform’ either for the group or to others.
Your VoXboX Teacher
Chris Samuel is a member of
Internationally renowned a cappella band Naked Voices and as well as
teaching Naked Voices workshops, runs a small group in Bradford on Avon
and works with Bristol’s huge and lovely Gasworks Choir.
He has recently run a special group for the large ‘Sing for Water’ event
as part of London’s Thames Festival where 800 singers from all over the
country come together and has helped to run Bradford’s ‘Singing round
the Town’ festival for the last four years.
When he’s not teaching singing or performing with Naked Voices, he
relaxes by singing with ‘Bound for Tulsa’ a three piece Country band and
also guests occasionally with Bradford’s ‘Singing in the Round’
community choir. When he has the time he also follows Bath Rugby.
He has a strong affinity with Hullavington having grown up here and his
parents are still very much at the heart of the local community.

we’ll work on school term dates – each term usually being 7 weeks. If we
start mid-term, or you want to come for a taster, then you can pay by
